Teacher/Leader Recruitment

Since opening the flagship campus in 1999, the highest priority of Noble leadership has been identifying, recruiting, and supporting staff to make Noble a place where the very best educators available feel challenged and dedicated. Campus Principal Recruitment
The principal recruitment and training program guides new principals to transfer the Noble core values, philosophy and culture to each new campus. The superintendent selects principals through an extensive process including multiple interviews, observations and reference checks.

New principals complete a 12-month internship at existing Network campuses.  Principal interns are assigned administrative duties under the direction of the superintendent and the existing campus principal. They integrate themselves into the culture and daily life of the campus and learn how to use Noble’s mission to guide decision-making and daily interactions with parents, teachers, and students.

Teacher Recruitment
Campus principals are responsible for hiring qualified faculty.  Applicants undergo a screening process of interviews, reference checks, and a criminal background check and are assessed on their performance in a Noble classroom to determine their effectiveness with students.

All Noble campuses keep a student/teacher ratio of about 18:1. About 35% of Noble Street Charter School teachers hold master’s degrees in education and the staff includes several teachers who have earned or are pursuing National Board Certification.  Many Noble Street teachers have completed preparation programs such as Teach for America.

Professional Development
Noble Street’s commitment to professional development for teachers includes:

  • Workshops designed specifically to help new teachers understand Noble Street’s school-wide goals and best practices
  • Quarterly professional development sessions informed by the results of quarterly student assessments
  • Regularly scheduled staff, grade-level and subject-area meetings at each campus
  • Network-wide summits for sharing best-practices
  • Network-wide content area meetings
  • Outside conferences

Contracts and Performance Bonuses
Noble Street faculty and staff are employed under one year contracts with competitive compensation.  In addition to base salaries, faculty members earn performance-based bonuses based on campus-wide student academic performance and individual teachers’ advisory attendance rate, advisory parental contact, contribution to discipline, professionalism and classroom appearance. Noble Street teachers are not members of the Chicago Teachers Union.
